Application
Octyl --D-glucopyranoside has been used n varying concentrations to wash Sepharose beads to study the interaction of Albumin-shFcRn in the presence of Octyl -D-glucopyranoside As a lysis and solubilization solution for bacterial lipoprotein preparation As a component of lysis buffer for determination of protein content by BCA assayTo solubilize the recombinant 47kDa antigen fromE. colicellIn deglycolysation processAs a component of lysis buffer to prepare mitochondrial extractsNon-ionic dialyzable detergent for the solubilization and isolation of membrane proteins. Has been shown to increase the resolution of proteins in 2D gels.
Purpose

General Description
Octyl glucoside (n-octyl--D-glucoside) is a nonionic surfactant frequently used to solubilise integral membrane proteins for studies in biochemistry. Structurally it is a glycoside derived from glucose and octanol. Like Genapol X-100 and Triton X-100 it is a nonphysiological amphiphile that makes lipid bilayers less stiff.
