12-Diiodoethane can be used To synthesize samarium(II) iodide-water complex (SmI2-H2O complex) a single-electron transfer reagent to further synthesize 3-hydroxy carboxylic acids. To synthesize derivatives of regioselective homopropargyl alcohols by using sonochemical Barbier-type reaction conditions. As an iodine source and an effective reagent for the dehydroxy-iodination of alcohols.
