Used as extraction solvent in labs paint stripper propellant and in pharmaceutical synthesis or decaffeination.
Purpose
Low boiling point moderate polarity enable efficient extractions and easy recovery chemically stable but forms phosgene when heated.
General Description
Dichloromethane (DCM CHCl) is a colorless volatile liquid haloalkane with a sweet chloroform-like odor and tetrahedral structure. It has density 1.33 gcm boiling point 40C melting point -97C and moderate water solubility (13 gL).
