General Description
Iron(II) sulfide (FeS) is a black solid compound made of iron and sulfur. It forms when iron reacts with sulfur and is commonly found in nature as the mineral mackinawite. FeS has a high melting point (1150C) and is insoluble in water. It is used in various industrial processes and can release hydrogen sulfide gas in acidic conditions.
