General Description
Perfluorocarbon is an example of Perfluoroaromatic compounds which contain only carbon and fluorine like other fluorocarbons but also contain an aromatic ring. The other examples are hexafluorobenzene and octafluoronaphthalene. It is commonly used as industrial solvent and can be prepared by defluorination of perfluoromethylcyclohexane by heating to 500&8451 with a nickel or iron catalyst.
