Description
Application
This reagent is applied as a mild and selective oxidizing system in organic synthesis where iodine acts as the active oxidizing species and the THFpyridinewater mixture provides a suitable reaction medium.
Purpose
Its primary purpose is to facilitate controlled oxidation of suitable functional groups while avoiding the use of stronger oxidizing agents that may cause unwanted side reactions.
General Description
The reagent consists of 0.02 M molecular iodine dissolved in a solvent mixture containing 66% THF 22% pyridine and 12% water by volume. THF serves as the main organic solvent pyridine provides a basic and coordinating environment and water assists in maintaining the required reaction conditions.
