Description
Application
Solvent in petroleum refining (extractive distillation). Intermediate in organic synthesis and resin production. Manufacture of furan-based chemicals (resins plastics solvents). Used in agrochemical and pharmaceutical synthesis. Flavoring and fragrance intermediate (in controlled use).
Purpose
Acts as a selective solvent for refining unsaturated hydrocarbons. Serves as a building block for furan derivatives and resins. Used in chemical synthesis due to its reactive aldehyde group. Helps in production of adhesives and corrosion inhibitors.
General Description
2-Furaldehyde commonly known as furfural is an aromatic aldehyde derived from agricultural biomass such as corn cobs rice husks and oat hulls. It is a characteristic almond-like odor. Reactive aldehyde easily oxidized.
