Description
Application
Used mainly as a reference compound in organic chemistry studies. Found as a component in petroleum fractions and fuels. Occasionally used in research related to fuel performance and hydrocarbon behavior.
Purpose
Its primary purpose is as a model hydrocarbon for studying properties of branched alkanes and as a minor constituent in fuel mixtures contributing to fuel characteristics like octane rating.
General Description
Nonpolar liquid composed of a six-carbon chain with two methyl groups attached at positions 2 and 5. Like other alkanes it is relatively unreactive and has low solubility in water.
