Description

Application
Acetazolamide is widely used in medicine to treat conditions such as glaucoma by decreasing pressure in the eye. It is also prescribed as a diuretic to manage edema and is commonly used for the prevention and treatment of altitude sickness. Additionally it is used in certain cases of epilepsy and metabolic alkalosis. In clinical settings it plays an important role in managing disorders related to fluid balance and pressure regulation.

Purpose
The main purpose of acetazolamide is to reduce the activity of carbonic anhydrase which leads to decreased formation of bicarbonate ions and reduced fluid accumulation in certain tissues. This mechanism helps lower intraocular pressure reduce fluid rete

General Description
Acetazolamide is a white to slightly yellow crystalline compound . It belongs to the class of sulfonamide derivatives and functions as an inhibitor of the enzyme carbonic anhydrase. By inhibiting this enzyme it affects the balance of carbon dioxide and bicarbonate in the body.
