Description
Application
In terms of application ammonium peroxodisulfate is widely used as an initiator in polymerization reactions particularly in the production of plastics synthetic rubber and latex. It is also employed as an etching and cleaning agent in the electronics industry especially for printed circuit boards. Additionally it is used in laboratory chemistry for oxidation reactions and in analytical procedures.
Purpose
The purpose of ammonium peroxodisulfate is primarily to act as a powerful oxidizing and radical-generating agent. In polymer chemistry it helps initiate free-radical polymerization.
General Description
Ammonium peroxodisulfate (also known as ammonium persulfate) is an inorganic compound . It is a strong oxidizing agent belonging to the class of persulfates and appears as a white crystalline solid that is highly soluble in water.
