Description

Application
It is administered orally in tablets capsules or suspension form to treat bacterial infections including urinary tract infections skin and skin structure infections pharyngitis and tonsillitis caused by susceptible organisms like Streptococcus pyogenes Staphylococcus aureus E. coli and Proteus mirabilis.

Purpose
Cefadroxil inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins leading to cell lysis and death with good oral absorption unaffected by food and over 90% renal excretion unchanged.

Cefadroxil monohydrate is a semisynthetic first-generation cephalosporin antibiotic with the molecular formula CHNOS appearing as a white to yellowish-white crystalline powder that is water-soluble and acid-stable chemically designated as (6R7R)-7-[(2R)-2-amino-2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)acetyl]amino-3-methyl-8-oxo-5-thia-1-azabicyclo[4.2.0]oct-2-ene-2-carboxylic acid monohydrate.
