Application
Molecular biology- DNA extraction and purification (especially plant DNA). Pharmaceuticals & research- drug delivery and nanoparticle synthesis. Cosmetics- used in hair conditioners and creams. Analytical chemistry- phase transfer catalyst and surfactant systems.
Purpose
Reduces surface tension and forms micelles. Helps lyse cells and separate biomolecules (like DNA). Stabilizes emulsions and nanoparticles.
General Description
A cationic surfactant (positively charged detergent). Soluble in water forms micelles. Has a long hydrophobic tail and a positively charged head group.
