Description
Application
It serves as a non-polar solvent for resins fats waxes and oils in nylon-66 production via adipic acid synthesis and in chromatography or extractions. Additional uses include calibration standards and chemical intermediates.
Purpose
Its primary purpose leverages chemical inertness low toxicity and solvency for non-polar substances enabling safe industrial processing and reactions while minimizing ring strain through conformational flexibility.
General Description
Cyclohexane is a cycloalkane and a flammable liquid with a petrol-like odor. It is typically produced by hydrogenating benzene in the presence of nickel or platinum catalysts. Serving as a key precursor in polyamide production cyclohexane also constitutes the structural framework of many naturally occurring compounds. Its conformational behavior has been studied across a wide temperature range (1001200 C). Additionally oxidation of cyclohexane using Cu-nanoclusters supported on nanocrystalline CrO has been shown to yield cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone.
