Application
Pharmaceuticals- used as a laxative in oral and rectal formulations. Cosmetics- emulsifier and wetting agent in creams and lotions. Industrial- dispersing agent in paints inks and detergents.
Purpose
To soften stool by increasing water penetration (medical use). Act as a wetting and emulsifying agent. Improve dispersion and uniform mixing of ingredients.
General Description
Docusate sodium is an anionic surfactant and stool softener. It is soluble in water and alcohol. It works by reducing surface tension allowing water and lipids to penetrate substances more easily.
