Application
Emtricitabine is used in the treatment and prevention of HIV infection including combination antiretroviral therapy and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and it is also active against chronic hepatitis B virus infection.
Purpose
The purpose of emtricitabine is to inhibit viral reverse transcriptase thereby preventing viral DNA synthesis and reducing viral replication.
