Application
Glycerol is a colorless sweet hygroscopic liquid used widely as a humectant moisturizer and sweetener. In pharmaceuticals it appears in creams cough syrups suppositories and as a preservative. In food it retains moisture and improves texture. In cosmetics it hydrates skin and hair and in industry it serves as a plasticizer antifreeze and in nitroglycerin production. It is also used in laboratories as a cryoprotectant and stabilizer for proteins and cells.
