Description
Application
HMDS acts as a silylating agent for protecting hydroxyl amino and carboxyl groups in organic synthesis (e.g. pharmaceuticals like amikacin penicillin) surface modifier for silicaTLC plates creating hydrophobic layers adhesion promoter for photoresists in semiconductors and precursor in CVD.
Purpose
Its primary purpose is trimethylsilylation via reactive Si-N bonds converting polar labile protons into volatile stable TMS ethersamides enhancing compound volatilitystability for GC-MS analysis and enabling selective reactions.
General Description
Hexamethyldisilazane (HMDS) is an organosilicon compound with the chemical formula (CH3)3SiNHSi(CH3)3. It is a colorless volatile liquid used primarily as a reagent in chemical reactions.
