Description
Application
Metallurgy- Used to precipitate precious metals (like gold or platinum) from solution. Chemical Industry- Used in the production of blowing agents for plastics and foams. Agriculture- Acts as a precursor for various pesticides and fungicides. Laboratory- Employed as a standard reagent in gravimetric analysis for nickel and copper. Health Research- Historically studied as an experimental (and controversial) treatment for cancer cachexia (muscle wasting).
Purpose
Its primary role is as a reducing agent and a source of hydrazine. Provides a solid easier-to-handle form of hydrazine for industrial use. Acts as a key intermediate in organic synthesis.
General Description
Appears as white crystalline powder. Highly soluble in hot water but less soluble in cold water. Non-volatile and more stable than pure hydrazine.
