Application
It is used as an etchant for copper in electronicsPCB manufacturing water treatment flocculant catalyst in organic synthesis (Friedel-Crafts) mordant in dyeing and photoengraving reagent.
Purpose
Its primary purpose is Lewis acid catalysis and metal etching via Fe reduction to Fe while oxidizing substrates plus coagulation of colloidal particles in water purification.
General Description
Iron(III) chloride hexahydrate is a yellow to dark greenish-brown crystalline solid highly hygroscopic with molecular weight 270.30 gmol density 1.82 gcm melting point 37C and very high water solubility (up to 800 gL) featuring octahedral [Fe(HO)] and Cl ions.
