Description

Application
It is widely used as a solvent in paints varnishes and inks as a fuel additive (e.g. in biodiesel production) in chemical synthesis for formaldehyde and acetic acid and as an antifreeze in industrial applications.

Purpose
Its primary purpose is to act as a versatile polar solvent and intermediate for one-carbon transfer reactions in organic synthesis while providing clean-burning fuel properties and denaturing agent for ethanol.

General Description
Methanol (CH3OH) is a simple aliphatic alcohol appearing as a clear colorless volatile liquid with a mild alcoholic odor featuring a polar hydroxyl group attached to a methyl group making it fully miscible with water and flammable.
