Description
Application
It is widely used for rust and scale removal in metal cleaning as a reducing agent in chemical synthesis in bleaching textileswood and as a mordant in dyeing.
Purpose
Its primary purpose is chelation of metal ions (especially Fe Fe) for descaling and purification leveraging strong dicarboxylic acidity (pKa 1.25 pKa 4.14) to form soluble complexes.
General Description
Oxalic acid dihydrate is a white crystalline solid with molecular weight 126.07 gmol density 1.65 gcm3 melting point 101102C (decomposes at 157C) and high water solubility (100 gL at 20C) featuring two water molecules in its monoclinic crystal lattice (space group P2n).
