Description
Application
Perchloric acid is applied in chemical analysis as an etchant in electroplating and as a strong oxidizing agent in organic synthesis and explosives testing.
Purpose
Its primary purpose is serving as one of the strongest known acids for protonation reactions pH adjustment and acting as a non-coordinating anion source in catalysis due to the weakly coordinating perchlorate ion.
General Description
HClO4 or perchloric acid is a colorless odorless inorganic superacid with the chemical formula HClO4 existing as an unstable oily liquid in anhydrous form or typically as a stable 72.5% aqueous solution.
