Polyvinyl butyral (PVB) is widely used as an interlayer in laminated safety glass particularly in automobile windshields building windows and architectural glazing.

The main purpose of PVB is to hold the glass pieces together when the glass breaks while also providing improved safety sound insulation and protection from ultraviolet radiation.

Polyvinyl butyral is a transparent flexible thermoplastic polymer produced from polyvinyl alcohol and butyraldehyde. It has excellent adhesion to glass good flexibility and high resistance to impact making it suitable for laminated glass applications.
