Description
Application
It serves as a powerful reducing agent and superbase in organic synthesis for deprotonating weak acids like terminal alkynes alcohols and carbonyls and in hydrogen storage or generation.
Purpose
Its primary purpose is to perform clean deprotonations (pKa 35) in anhydrous conditions generating H violently with protic solvents stronger than NaH for tertiary alcohols and ketones.
General Description
Potassium hydride (KH) is a white to gray crystalline powder inorganic compound with ionic bonding between K cations and H anions adopting a cubic rock salt structure and decomposing above 400C.
