Description
Application
It is primarily used as a primary standard for standardizing NaOH solutions in acid-base titrations due to its high purity (99.9%) stability and precise molar mass (204.22 gmol) and as a pH buffer standard (pKa 5.4).
Purpose
Its main purpose is to enable accurate volumetric analysis via quantitative reaction with bases (KHP NaOH KNaP HO) providing stable pH calibration points (4.00 5.41 buffers) without hygroscopic interference.
General Description
Potassium hydrogen phthalate (KHP CHKO) is a white crystalline monopotassium salt of phthalic acid featuring a benzene ring with one carboxylic acid and one potassium carboxylate group in ortho position odorless non-hygroscopic with density 1.64 gcm and decomposition at 295300C.
