Description
Application
Used as a solvent in chemical reactions a base for dehydrohalogenation and acylation in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals agrochemicals dyes and adhesives and historically in denaturing alcohol.
Purpose
Serves as a mild base and nucleophile to neutralize acids facilitate nucleophilic substitutions and participate in electrophilic reactions at specific ring positions due to nitrogens electron-withdrawing effect enabling versatile organic synthesis.
General Description
Pyridine (CHN) is a colorless to light yellow liquid with a strong unpleasant fish-like odor. It forms a six-membered heterocyclic ring like benzene but with one CH group replaced by nitrogen featuring sp-hybridized atoms delocalized electrons for aromaticity and a basic lone pair on nitrogen.
