Description
Application
Pyridine is used as a solvent in chemical reactions a base in acylation and in synthesizing pharmaceuticals agrochemicals and dyes. Its also applied in paint removers and as a denaturant for alcohol.
Purpose
Its main purpose is acting as a mild base and nucleophile in organic synthesis neutralizing acids and facilitating reactions where its aromatic stability and lone pair reactivity are key.
General Description
Pyridine (CHN) is a heterocyclic aromatic compound forming a six-membered ring like benzene but with one CH group replaced by nitrogen. Its a colorless to yellow liquid with a strong unpleasant fishy odor boiling at 115C density of 0.98 gmL and weakly basic due to the nitrogen lone pair.
