Description

Application
It is used in soap and detergent manufacturing (saponification) pulppaper production alumina extraction from bauxite water treatment pH adjustment and drain cleaners.

Purpose
Its primary purpose is strong base catalysis via OH nucleophilicity and pH elevation (13) enabling hydrolysis reactions precipitation of metals as hydroxides and neutralization of acids.

General Description
Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) also known as caustic soda or lye is a white odorless deliquescent solid consisting of Na cations and OH anions in an ionic lattice with molecular weight 39.997 gmol density 2.13 gcm melting point 318C boiling point 1388C and extremely high water solubility (exothermic dissolution forming hydrates like NaOHHO).
