Description
Application
Used as a wetting and emulsifying agent in pharmaceutical formulations. Helps in protein solubilization in biochemical studies. Applied in chromatography and analytical techniques. Sometimes used in cleaning or formulation research where milder surfactants are needed.
Purpose
To reduce surface tension and improve mixing of substances. Enables uniform dispersion of hydrophobic compounds in water. Assists in breaking down or solubilizing biological and chemical materials.
General Description
An anionic surfactant (detergent-like compound). Consists of an 8-carbon alkyl chain (octyl) attached to a sulfate group. Typically appears as a white solid or powder soluble in water. Similar in structure to Sodium dodecyl sulfate but with a shorter chain.
