Tetrabutylammonium hydroxide (TBAOH) is a quaternary ammonium base commonly used in chemistry and industry. Its a strong organic base that is highly soluble in water and some organic solvents. Because of its bulky tetrabutylammonium ion it can act as a phase-transfer agent helping reactions occur between substances in different phases (like oil and water).
