Thyroglobulin is a large protein produced by the thyroid gland and is essential for the formation of thyroid hormones. It is a glycoprotein stored in the thyroid follicles. It serves as the precursor for the thyroid hormones thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). Normally present in small amounts in blood.
