Description

Application
It serves as a reducing agent in organic synthesis (nitro to amine reductions) tin-plating baths glassplastic metallization sensitizer and analytical reagent for goldsilver determination.

Purpose
Its primary purpose is one-electron reduction of nitro groups metal ions (FeFe AgAg) and carbonyls due to labile Sn often stabilized in acidic solution to prevent oxidation to Sn.

General Description
Tin(II) chloride dihydrate is a white to off-white hygroscopic crystalline solid consisting of Sn2 cations and chloride anions with two waters of hydration molecular weight 225.63 gmol density 2.71 gcm3 melting point 3738C (decomposes) and soluble in water but prone to hydrolysis forming basic salts.
