Description
Application
DMF is widely used as a solvent in organic synthesis peptide coupling polymer reactions (e.g. polyacrylonitrile) and extractions. It also serves in paint strippers fiber production and as a reaction medium for organometallics and pharmaceuticals.
Purpose
Its primary purpose arises from high dielectric constant and ability to dissolve polarnonpolar substances stabilizing reactions and facilitating processes like Vilsmeier formylation while showing partial C-N double bond character.
General Description
NN-Dimethylformamide (DMF) is a colorless high-boiling polar solvent fully miscible with water and organic liquids. Widely used in pharmaceuticals polymers and electronics it offers excellent solubility but must be handled with care due to its toxicity.
