Protamine sulfate salt from salmon has been used in the pretreament of cells to study its effect on respiratory syncytial virus infection in lentivirus production to derivatize it into a diazeniumdiolate NO donor. May be used for the removal of DNA from protein samples or for the purification of DNA binding proteins. It may be used as an alternative to polybrene in retroviral-mediated gene transfer.
