Description
Application
It is commonly used as a humidity indicator in desiccants (turning from pink hydrated form to blue anhydrous upon dehydration) in electroplating as a catalyst in organic synthesis and in pigments for glass or porcelain.
Purpose
Its primary purpose is to detect moisture through reversible color change (pink hydrated blue anhydrous) and to provide Co ions for coordination chemistry catalysis and analytical reagents.
General Description
Cobalt(II) chloride hexahydrate is a red to purple crystalline solid with the formula CoCl26H2O hygroscopic and highly soluble in water where it forms the [Co(H2O)6] complex that turns solutions pink to red.
