Description

Application
It is used in gravimetric analysis for potassium determination due to its low solubility in platinum catalyst preparation and historically in photography and pigment production.

Purpose
Its primary purpose is to form sparingly soluble precipitates selectively with K ions (Ksp 10) for quantitative analysis and as a platinum source via reduction to lower oxidation states.

General Description
Potassium chloroplatinate (KPtCl) is an orange-yellow crystalline solid coordination compound featuring the octahedral hexachloroplatinate(IV) anion [PtCl] with two K cations density 3.5 gcm and decomposing at 250C without melting.
