Description
Application
It serves as a source of bromide ions for silver bromide photographic emulsions sedativeanticonvulsant in veterinary medicine (dogs) analytical reagent in IR spectroscopy (KBr pellets) and formerly as a human antiepileptic.
Purpose
Its primary purpose is dissociating to Br ions for precipitation reactions (Ag AgBr) anticonvulsant action via GABA enhancement and transparent matrix for FTIR spectroscopy due to no IR absorption above 400 cm.
General Description
Potassium bromide (KBr) is a white crystalline odorless hygroscopic ionic salt consisting of K cations and Br anions in a cubic crystal lattice (NaCl structure) with molecular weight 119.00 gmol density 2.75 gcm melting point 734C boiling point 1435C and high water solubility (678 gL at 20C).
